MLA Citation Style & Formatting

Creating your Works Cited List

MLA formatted papers have a list of works cited on the last page to provide the reader a guide to the author's in-text citations.

A Works Cited page:

  • Contains the properly formatted MLA citations for all information referenced in the author's paper.
  • Begins on a new page after the last page of the written paper.
  • Has the heading: "Works Cited" in center and without underlining, bolding or italicizing.
  • Lists all citations alphabetically.
  • Is double-spaced throughout, even between citations (no additional space).
  • Indents second lines of citations by 0.5".
