How to Cite the SMCCCD Sustainability Website

When citing online resources student will likely be citing a webpage. This is true for anything online you find outside of the library databases. Always remember to cite the webpage you are referring to (more specific, where your cited information "lives") and NOT the website (more general, houses the webpage you're citing).

Format for Citing a Webpage:

Author if present. "Title of Webpage." Title of Website, Publisher/Publishing Organization, webpageURL.

Example: Citing information on the Campus Engagement page:

“Campus Engagement.” SMCCCD Sustainability, San Mateo County Community College District, sites.google.com/my.smccd.edu/smcccdsustainability/sustainability-programs/campus-engagement.

Why Cite?

Why Cite?

  • to acknowledge the information you used (and did not create yourself)
  • to acknowledge the cited author's experise,
  • to allow the reader to find the source you are referencing and
  • to enable your reader to use the references as a starting point for their own research...
