An NEH grant will help fund and launch the UC Davis Center for Artificial Intelligence and Experimental Futures (CAIEF) which will be a hub of interdisciplinary AI research, education, and outreach. The award will support three years of research activities.

It also gave the state’s attorney general the right to sue companies over serious harm caused by their technologies, like death or property damage. And it mandated a kill switch to turn off A.I. systems in case of potential biowarfare, mass casualties or property damage
California Gov. Gavin Newsom vetoed legislation would have required tech companies to test AI for harm to society. It attracted opposition from numerous members of Congress and major AI companies including Google, Meta, and OpenAI.
The new system cut the number of students deemed “at risk” in the state by 200,000, leading to tough moral and ethical questions over which children deserve extra assistance.
