Register to Vote in California

In California, the deadline to register to vote for any election is 15 days Election Day.  To vote in the November 3, 2020 election, your registration must be postmarked or submitted electronically no later than October 19, 2020.

To vote in the November 2020 election, you must meet these requirements:

  • A United States citizen and a resident of California,
  • 18 years old or older on Election Day,
  • Not currently in state or federal prison or on parole for the conviction of a felony,
  • Not currently found mentally incompetent to vote by a court.

Same Day Voter Registration

If you missed the deadline, you can still register and vote up to and through Election Day using Same Day Voter Registration.

Eligible citizens who need to register or re-register to vote within 14 days of an election can complete this process to register and vote at their county elections office, polling place, or vote center.  Their ballots will be processed and counted once the county elections office has completed the voter registration verification process.
