LOCAL EARTH DAY 2021 RESOURCES & EVENTS

Additional Resources: Great Reads, Citizen Science, & an Environmental Activism Club

Bay Nature magazine mastheadBay Nature.org - Read from the current issue online. Bay Nature was founded as a print magazine in 2001 to present a luminous and intelligent publication that would reflect the natural beauty of the San Francisco Bay Area, honor the region’s legacy of environmental advocacy, and nurture its wealth of creative talents. Now a non-profit NGO, the Bay Nature Institute not only publishes the magazine, but hosts local hikes and events. Much of its visually rich, informative magazine content now available online.

iNaturalist logoiNaturalist - City of San Mateo & Redwood City Biodiversity.  iNaturalist is an global online social network of people sharing biodiversity information based on their own personal citizen science direct observations to help each other learn about nature. As a crowdsourced species identification system and an organism occurrence recording tool, it's a great way to learn about nature around you. This link focuses on flora and fauna observations made in San Mateo and Redwood Cities.

Sierra Club Loma Preita Chapter logo

Sierra Club - Peninsula Regional Group is a regional group within the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club. It offers local members chances to get involved and actively contribute their talents and skills to the environmental work of the Sierra Club. Member dues are used to work for the environment, and our meetings & outings offer a way to physically make a difference. Opportunities include helping build hiking trails, to helping haul trash out of a nearby creek, persuading officials at a city council meeting to pass a riparian corridor ordinance. And of course we offer member opportunities for hiking and camping.
