Safety is our first priority. All student use must be mediated/facilitated by experienced library staff or faculty. This means that access to the laser cutters will depend on library staff availability.
The Library’s Laser Cutter/Engravers are available to the public to make three-dimensional objects in plastic using a design that is uploaded from a digital computer file.
The Library’s Laser Cutter/Engravers may be used only for lawful purposes. Community members will not be permitted to use the Library’s Laser Cutter/Engravers to create material that is:
Prohibited by local, state or federal law.
In violation of College of San Mateo regulations or the Student Code of Conduct.
Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others.
Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the Library environment.
In violation of another’s intellectual property rights.
For example, the printers will not be used to reproduce material that is subject to copyright, patent or trademark protection. However, an object design or file with a Creative Commons license or that is in the Public Domain may be printed.
The Library reserves the right to refuse any Laser Cutter/Engraver print request.
Laser Cutter/Engraver may or may not occur on a first come, first serve basis.
Printer availability, estimated duration of print job, staff availability, and other considerations will determine print order.
Print jobs by College of San Mateo students, faculty, and staff have priority.
Cost: Laser Cutter/Engravers at the Library is currently free. Although, due to high demand, there's a 30 minute time limit for laser engraving on the Glowforge. A fee may be charged in the future to cover printing costs.
Items printed from Library Laser Cutter/Engravers that are not picked up within 30 days will become property of the Library. Items must be picked up by the individual who printed them. Photo ID or a Peninsula Library System Library Card must be presented when picking up an item.
