CSM Makerspace

3D Print

The CSM MakerSpace uses Bambu X1 Carbon printers (models below).

You will need an @my.smccd.edu or gmail account to submit a request.

Our Printers and Filament

The CSM Library uses PLA filament (Polylactic acid). It's a biodegradable filament with a lower melting temperature and less fumes than some other standard filaments.

There are other 3D printers that can print in a variety of materials, including metals and even edible filaments. Sadly, we don't have those.

FAQs

What printer does the library have?

Bambu X1 Carbon

What filament does the library use?

The X1 Carbon uses corn-based 1.75mm PLA (Polyactic Acid) Biodegradable Filament to print 3-dimensional objects. PLA is biodegradable.

What files does the printer use?

The printer uses .STL, .OBJ, and 3MF files. 3D print files may also be found in an online object library, such as Thingiverse, Makerworld and Printables.

How much does it cost?

3D Printing at the Library is currently free for student projects. A fee may be charged in the future to cover printing costs.
