Students: Study Rooms & Spaces

Study Rooms & Student Spaces

CSM group study roomGroup Study

CSM Library currently has one study room for student use. CSM students can reserve this study room for groups of 2-6, and use our space to collaborate, study, practice presentations, brainstorm, share ideas, and spread out. The room can be reserved for up to 2 hours at a time (no more than 3 reservations per group per week).

Make use of our white board (dry erase markers at the front desk), outlets, and modular furniture to suit your group study needs.

If the room isn't booked then individual CSM students are free to use the space until it is booked by a group or until the next reservation arrives.

Studying at the Library

Although CSM Library's study rooms are only available to CSM students, the Library welcomes students and San Mateo community members to use the library facilities, including public computers, the library collection, and open study areas.

CSM Library has student study spaces throughout the library. The main floor consists of two computer areas with space to do work, as well as individual study carrels and tables for pairs and groups to work together and spread out.

The second floor of the library holds most of our book collection, as well as spaces to browse, read, and tables to study.

Sound in the Library

The Library is an active learning space and while there are no spaces devoted to silent study, students are encouraged to work at a reasonable volume, or reserve the Group Study Room when working in groups. If you feel that the volume in the library is making it difficult to study, please contact library staff or the librarian on duty.

Many students take classes online, or take hybrid classes, and the CSM Library is a great place to attend your virtual classes. Here are some tips for using the Library while you're taking your online classes:

  • Be mindful of the people around you. Many students use the library as a quiet study space, so be sure to use headphones and be aware of your speaking volume if you plan on using a microphone to participate in your courses.
  • Library desktop computers are available to use for your classes but our computers do not have webcams, microphones, or external speakers (headphones required). You are welcome to use your own USB devices on library computers to accommodate your classes.
  • The CSM Library has free wifi and outlets throughout the building. If you're having trouble finding an outlet or accessing wifi, please ask library staff for help.
  • Don't forget your headphones. Be sure to use headphones when attending class online, or when listening or viewing class materials. You can bring your own headphones or check out a pair of headphones at the Library circ desk for free.
  • Don't be shy - ask for help! Our library staff is onsite during open hours to help answer your questions about the library, or hop on chat anytime during open hours if there's something you're wondering about. We're so happy to help!
